    A "Christmas party" for families of overseas soldiers where over 200 family members, and ex-military from recent US conflicts/wars came together to celebrate the holidays. As a co-founder/co-chair with Curt Schilling, we were fortunate enough to couple the dinner with Christmas gifts*, most of which were specifically bought at Costco (yes, Curt and I went shopping together :) and given based upon specific family suggestions.

As a co-founder/co-chair with Curt Schilling, we were fortunate enough to couple the dinner with Christmas gifts*, most of which were specifically bought at Costco (yes, Curt and I went shopping together :) and given based upon specific family suggestions.

    This type of note from an attending family made it all the more worthwhile:
    "Hello again Gates. My family and I just wanted to express our gratitude once again for the amazing night that all of you put together. Everyone was so kind & made us feel like the ones to be honored. What a wonderful community. My husband and I spoke for some time with your wife and Mrs. Schilling and it felt like we were talking with friends. Mr. Schilling was very generous with his time as well. I know he didn't want the evening to be about him but was very willing and patient to talk and take photo's. We would have left that night feeling grateful to have been a part of it all and then we get presented with box loads of gifts! (that you were so lucky to carry down the stairs) So unnecessary. My children said it was just like Christmas! Thank you all for an amazing and overwhelming evening that we will never forget. It taught my children a good lesson in doing for others especially at this time of year. We also thank you for honoring our soldiers they so need our support. My son was speechless when we told him all about it. Your generosity and kindness will never be forgotten."

    It was our privilege to host this event for these families, many of which had lost a loved one.
